Her whispers are like a drug to me.
I can’t stop listening, can’t stop fucking zoning out completely as she grabs my leg with those sweet little hands.
Her lips are so close to mine I can almost taste them.
And I want to.
So fucking bad …
I’m consumed with the thought of taking her, and for a second I’m almost tempted to do just that.
Grab her by her waist, tear off her clothes, rip down my zipper, and ram my cock into her dripping wet pussy.
But I know it’s all lies.
All lies my mind spins to make me feel wanted.
To make me feel good.
Because I’m not.
I’m far from it, and she knows it.
When her fingers graze my dick, I grasp her wrist and stop her.
She’s not doing this because she wants me just as much.
She’s doing this because she wants out.
I’m being used. And I don’t like being used.
“Don’t,” I hiss, pushing her away.
She cocks her head and her tongue dips out again to lip those sweet little lips that I just want to conquer. “Tell me you don’t want this.”
I narrow my eyes, unable to pull away even though I should.
Fuck.
It’s so goddamn wrong.
She’s my prisoner. I shouldn’t want her, and yet I do, and now she knows.

Maybe she’s found my weak spot.
Or maybe I’m really looking for salvation … and she’s the only one who can give it to me.
No. I can’t allow it.
“No,” I reply, lying through my teeth.
But I have to make a stand.
Have to stop this from happening before it’s too late.
“I don’t believe you,” she says, inching closer again.
I immediately get off the couch, not giving a shit that my dick is rock hard because of her.
I won’t let her find out.



Excerpt 2

 “Do you even know what you’re doing?” he murmurs into my ear.
I nod.
I can feel him smile. “I’m a monster … remember? I don’t play nice.”
“I’m not asking you to,” I reply.
“Good. Because I am not about to listen,” he says, his voice gruff and demanding as he takes my earlobe into his mouth and sucks. Then bites.
Hard enough for it to hurt, but soft enough for it not to bleed.
“Think you can handle me?” he muses. “That you can taunt me like that and get away with it?”
I shake my head, but he pulls my hair harshly, forcing my head back and exposing my neck.
His lips make a trail down towards the base of my neck, where he plants a hot kiss filled with desire … and something else. A hunger for bad things.
He wraps his free arm around my waist and pulls me close while his tongue dips out to lick my skin.
My legs quake. I feel something between my legs … excitement … something I haven’t felt in a very long time.
“I’m not gentle. I’m not nice,” he whispers, sinking his teeth into my skin.
I hiss, but still don’t reply.
“You’ve pushed me too far now, Syrena,” he groans. “I’m going to take what belongs to me now. Inch by inch, your body will be mine.”

When she hands me the flask back, I place it on the table and go back to the box, fishing out a few pieces of jerky. The moment she sees me holding them, her face contorts. I still attempt to give it to her. With a smile too.
Still, she shakes her head at the meat.
What is wrong with this woman?
Why won’t she eat?
I even gave her a smile and everything. What else does she want from me?
Does she not want to live at all or what?
I push it against her lips and say, “Eat.”
“No …” she mumbles, leaning back as far as possible.
I growl, “Eat.”
Her eyes dart up to mine, so I gaze at her with equal ferocity. I haven’t met a lot of women, most of them were just as scared of me as she was, but none of them were this fiery. This one’s gutsy. I like it.
What I don’t like is how she keeps refusing to eat. She has to eat something. Otherwise, she’ll die.
“Eat,” I say again, losing my patience.
I hold it up to her mouth and wait until she opens it. She takes the tiniest of tiny nibbles and chews on it with a face that reminds me of the ones I saw before I was on this island … back when I still thought I could adapt to their world.
My face darkens as I watch her chew with reluctance until she swallows and coughs immediately after.
I nod and hold out the meat again.
“No, no more, please,” she says, her voice croaky.
I grunt and place the jerky on the nightstand beside the bed. Frustrated, I turn around and leave the hut, slamming the door shut behind me.
I wish I understood women, but I don’t. I don’t fucking understand any person, at all.
That’s why I live on my own, and having her here only reminds me of that fact.
Maybe I should’ve gotten rid of her, after all. It would’ve saved me the trouble of looking out for her, feeding her, giving her my bed.
Goddammit.
I grasp the ax from the box outside and begin chopping wood. It’s the only thing I can do when my mind is going in circles. I need to get this shit off my mind and focus on work. Things I can actually fix, instead of … women.
Why do females have to be so complicated?
I gave her food, and she’s not even thankful.
She won’t eat, she didn’t thank me for rescuing her, and she keeps running away.
I sigh and ram the ax into the block, letting out all my anger on the wood.
I refuse to give up. I made my choice, and I’m sticking with it. I will just have to tame the girl.
One way or another, she will eat, and she will adjust. Maybe in time, she’ll learn to appreciate the island … and maybe even start cooking for me.
Yeah, that’d be nice.
Her, me, a spit-roast on the beach, and a fur blanket to cuddle on.
My mouth waters at the thought.
Maybe this girl destroyed some of the jungle, but it doesn’t have to all be bad.
She could be my woman.
That’d definitely be nice.

 From the moment I first saw him I was captivated.
The man with the black, leather jacket and dark, spiky hair, staring down at a notebook as he sits on a bench across my house.
Every day he sits there at exactly ten p.m., looking off into the distance, or writing his notes … or looking straight at me.
Like he is now.
Our eyes meet and a sudden electrical current rushes through my veins.
His piercing blue eyes make me unable to look away, and I wonder … How long ago was it that he first saw me?
It’s only recently that I’ve noticed him outside … watching over my house like he’s guarding it. Guarding me.
I don’t know if I should be scared. If I should run or call the cops.
He’s never come close.
Is there any reason to act?
As long as there’s distance between us … an invisible wall he doesn’t dare cross … I can live with it. I can survive, knowing he is there, wherever I go.
I never know when or where I’m going to see him again.
I just know that I will.



Unedited Excerpt 2


 From the living room I can hear the shower run. I step closer to the only light source in the house, my heart practically beating out of my chest from excitement. She’s so close, I could almost taste her. I could almost take her.

I shouldn’t.

And yet, I can’t stop myself from inching closer ever passing seconds.

It’s like my feet gravitate towards her. My mind can no longer stop my body from approaching, even if it’s wrong on all levels.

I watch her shower. Through the curtains I can see the silhouette of her body, and sometimes skin peeks through the gap. Her body looks like silk, so smooth. Her olive skin so deliciously appetizing, I want to lick it.

I stop myself before I go too far.

I already went past the moral line when I came all over her window.

Standing near the door to her bathroom, I admire her from a distance, listening to the sound of the water cascading down her skin. She massages herself with oils and the scent is intoxicating. I feel the warmth prickle on my skin and in this moment I wonder if she’ll ever want to truly know me.

If it’d ever be okay to talk to her.

To get to know her.

To be with her.

The more I watch her, the more I want from her. I’m physically incapable to stay away. I feel my best when I’m close to her. I only desire to give her everything she needs. I don’t want to hurt her, and yet I know she has every reason to fear me.

She’s fragile, emotionally drained. Used by wrong people.

I also know her man smacked her around like a wet rag.

He likes beating things senseless. It makes him feel powerful. Better than her.

Calling the cops is useless, they’re in his pocket, and she knows that too. That’s why she never did a thing to stop it. That’s why she ran away from him.

She ran and ran …

But both of us know, you can never run away from a lie.
