Writing another book!

I have so many projects going on right now. The Enflamed Series is still boiling and burning, am working on book three right now. At the same time I'm writing a new Series under the title "doing it" with each title getting a subtitle such as "wild" and "risqué" and stuff. The first two books are finished and I'll work on part three when part three of Enflamed is done. Phew, so much to do :P
That said, I find it hard to focus on my writings. When I've been writing one novel for so long, switching to another is difficult, because I've almost 'forgotten' how the voices would sound in my head when I write about the characters, if you know what I mean.
It's just all a bit of a climb up the mountain to get a feeling for it again.

Anyway, I'm also in the process of figuring out if and when I want to write a full novel, as in, at least 60k words. I'm still doubting whether I can or cannot, but it mostly depends on the plot I'm able to think of, and up 'till now, it isn't very big. I will ponder about it more, let it simmer a bit, maybe I will find out it's easier than I thought.

I'm also wondering whether or not it's okay for an erotic writer to publish other genres as well. I write a lot of other stuff too, but I'm afraid it might feel clunky to readers if I'd ever write something that doesn't belong in the same genre as all the other books. If you guys have any ideas about this, please do share :)

How to sell more books with amazon

As romance writers, we've got it tough. Millions of other writers vying for the same bestseller spot in Amazon just so we can sell more books. I've been tinkering with my own uploads recently, always adjusting my info, categories, keywords and whatnot and I've come to the conclusion that it's hard to find the specific categories you want to enter. Some categories don't show up on Amazon KDP at all, while you can search for the category in the regular Amazon store.
For instance; New-Adult (or NA) & College books is a new vibrant category with only 1500 books or so and it's a very good opportunity for indie writers to get a hold of new readers. However, this category is not yet available in KDP.
So what have I discovered? When you type the category as 1 keyword in the keyword section, the book will also pop up in that exact category. Or in other words; you can pretty much use this a loophole to get your books into more categories.

Another thing. Some writers categorize their books in very general, non-specific things, which makes it:
a. hard to find.
b. a needle in a haystack.

Some categories are WAY too full and there are so many other categories you can find that have very little books. The less books there are, the higher your chances to be found. I know that sounds weird, because you'd think 'well, there are so many books there, it's got to be a better place to market my books'. WRONG. These categories are flooded, which makes your book disappear.

What you need is to pick a very specific genre that dives deep into sub genres. Pick something that goes down as deep as possible, but always make sure you still stick to your book's theme.

I've made a list here to show you what I mean when I say there's a lot of difference in books available between different categories:

 July 2013 list of available books in categories:

(Averages)

Romance -> contemporary              47. 000
Romance -> erotica                         21.000
Romance -> NA                                  1.389
Romance -> comedy                       5.600
Lit -> contemporary                           149.000
Erotica                                                    98.000
Romance                                               143.000
Short stories                                        36.000
Women’s fiction                              14.600

So, looking at this graph, I've placed my newest short story Doing It Wild under:
Romance --> Contemporary
Romance --> Women's fiction
Then typed in the keyword: New Adult
And BAM, my book showed up in about 5 categories.
(since the last edit, I also inserted "comedy" into the keywords, will see if it'll enter that category too).

With another book, I'm trying the same thing now, only a bit different. I put Hooked By You in the following category:
Romance --> erotica
Fiction --> erotica

Typed keywords for category loophole: Contemporary, Women's fiction, Multicutural & Interracial (since my book features a Japanese man).

I'm still checking to see if it'll work out, but I hope it does. If this is true, you can pretty much glitch the entire Amazon Categories list to fit it to your liking. Which is fantastic, to say the least. The more categories you can enter your book in, the more likely you are to get on a bestseller list, which is a sure way to boost your sales.

Anyway, that's it for today! Hope you found it useful :)

Writing or Marketing

So the last few days I've been super busy trying to get these books off the ground. I've been contacting a few reviewers, posting away on Goodreads, and other websites, trying to snag people to read it.
Marketing is hard work! Since publication (which was 07-07-2013), I've had 290 downloads of book 1, and still only one person bought book 2. However, I'm hoping that, when the reviews are in, book 2 will run better.

I'm still having a hard time balancing between writing and marketing though, because I find myself wanting to sell my books, yet I do need to keep on writing. Sometimes I think 'what's the use? If people aren't going to read it, why bother?' Because the lack of people reading book 2 is discouraging.
Then again, I shouldn't be too hasty to draw my conclusions. I should wait a while before I say 'it's not working'. People always say, "just keep on writing, it'll eventually work out", but I have no idea how. Almost a week has passed and I've yet to see anyone looking at the Kindle book (the one on Amazon).

I wonder what I can do to improve my visibility? I feel like I'm swamped in the midst of all those other erotic romance novels and it makes it impossible for others (like me) to break through. If anyone has any tips for that matter, they're more than welcome!

Anyway, guess that's it for today ;)

xx

The First Day

All is going well. I posted both Raveled By You and Hooked By You on Smashwords and Kindle. The first book on Smashwords is free. It's supposed to be free on Amazon as well, but I still need some more people to report the price difference so they will price match :)
If anyone is willing to help, please do!

But more importantly: I just made my first sale!

YAAAAY

*Excited*

I'm so happy things are going so well. Within 15 hours I've already had 152 downloads on book 1.

I also created a few extra accounts on about.me, goodreads author, amazon author and allromanceebooks. I plan to have my books everywhere ;)

I hope some people will review them. I've already asked a couple of people, but no response yet (though it's been only a day, so I should give it some time, lol :P). I'm so hasty ...

Full of energy now!

Anyway, until next time ;)

Internal Dialog quirkiness

So recently I've been reading and critiquing other people's works in exchange for the same. I often come across mistakes that are cringe-worthy to say the least, but sometimes also find mistakes that are easily looked over, because they're not actually mistakes, but more style problems.

For instance, a writer put his internal dialog in italics, but made it very narrative, instead of real thought patterns coming through on the pages.

Example: Danger alert! Panic mode on.

I know what the writer is trying to do, which is create tension for the reader, but this is not an internal dialog at all. One does not think like that. Do you? Do you think in terms of 'Danger!' and 'Alert' and 'Mode on' in your head? I don't.

Regular thought patterns are usually either questions or judgemental statements. People think in either of these 2 categories:
  • Question (i.e. What is he doing? Why is she here? etc.)
  • (Judgemental/emotionally loaded) statements or ideas (i.e. I don't like this. This is stupid. He looks amazing!)

There isn't actually any other internal dialog going on in your brain apart from those two. Sure, you can talk to yourself in your head, but it still falls into either categories. For example: What should I do today? I could go swimming. No, wait, I hate water. Nevermind. <- now if you read closely, you can see the first is a question, the second is a statement/idea, the latter ones judgmental statements.

In your books, you want your characters to be as close to a regular human as possible, even if they have magical powers. It doesn't matter what they are, but they need to have human thought patterns and human traits and emotions.

Why?
Because people want to relate to your characters. Books don't stick if people can't sympathize with your characters. This is a plain fact, for something to be successful, you need to engage people. So stick to these two categories and you'll be fine on the inner dialog part ;)

Anyway, that's it for today's rambling :)

Kisses!

To share or not to share

So I just posted 2 chapters of Raveled by You on Wattpad, and I must say, I'm bouncing up and down in my chair right now. The thought of people reading my insanely explicit story gets under my skin.

Also, I'm still not quite sure how much I should be sharing with the world yet. I want you all to read my book, but I don't want it to be all for free. Still thinking about how I'm going to handle this.

Raveled by you is part of a series called Enflamed and I'm planning to create four stories (if not more) within this series. I'm not sure whether or not the first one should be free, that also depends on how long it takes for me to publish the second one of course. Just pondering about it :)

Anyway, I also put it up on Authonomy, just to check the waters, see if there's any interest. I want to spread my roots, see where my readers lie, track 'em down and chase 'em with my book, hoping they'll read it.

Better jump in and see where it goes, right? Can only go up from the bottom :P

Hi!

So, this is the first post on my brand new blog where I can yelp about anything that comes to mind. Express my thoughts, wishes and things that happen in my life.

Actually, it's more because I hope it will generate some interest and excitement around my book Raveled by You, which is part of the Enflamed Series I'm currently writing. It's an Erotic Romance filled with hot, steamy M/F encounters.

I'm in the process of editing my work and rewriting some tid-bits, but I hope to publish the first book in the series soon. So keep an eye out for that. Working on the cover as we speak.

I haven't actually had anyone read my book. Well, I do have it up on Authonomy and someone was thrilled about it.

AHEM, a quote: 'Yeah! I read all you have uploaded, and have one word: STEAMY!!!!!!!! E.L. James and Sylvia Day better watch their backs. Great job building the sexuall tension and then giving us the big pay off. Is it hot in here or is it me?'

So I guess you could say someone liked it :P But hey, it's not published yet, so I'll hold my horses, hehe. Anyway, guess that's all I wanted to spout today.

Much love!
